Behemoth
The
evolution of Polish blackened death metal heavyweights Behemoth is one
of the most remarkable in extreme metal. From humble beginnings as a
lo-fi black metal act, mainman Nergal carefully took steps in new sonic
directions over the course of the next few albums. Straddling the line
between black and death was the ever-crucial ‘Satanica,’ paving the way
for the more brutish aspects that followed up through the breakthrough
album, ‘Demigod,’ in 2004. Employing this barbaric style over the next
two records, Nergal authored his masterpiece after rebounding from
leukemia. ‘The Satanist’ is a career-defining statement of Nergal’s
personal belief system, heavily entrenched in Satanism and backed by his
most expansive work to date.
